Henry County Man Arrested For Rape And Attempted Murder After Leading Police On High Speed Chase

(SMITHFIELD, KY) - On Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 12:49 pm the Kentucky State Police Post-5 911 Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a female advising that she had been raped and assaulted by man in her home. According to Kentucky State Police reports the female was awakened by the suspect when he entered her home, assaulted her and raped her. The suspect then forced her to drive to a local bank and withdraw money. The suspect then took the victim back to her residence where he assaulted her again until she was unconscious and then left the victims home. The female regained consciousness and call 911 at 12:49 pm. The victim was taken to the hospital for examination. The victim was able to provide the officers with the name of the suspect as well as a vehicle description. While Kentucky State Police Detective Chip Perry was at the victims home collecting evidence he noticed that a man fitting the description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle pulled next to the victims home. Detective Perry attempted to question the suspect when he fled. Detective Perry pursued the suspect along with other officers for approximately 10 minutes. The pursuit reached speeds of over 90 miles per hour and ended near Centerfield, Kentucky on KY-22 when the suspect lost control and stopped in a field. A short foot chase then took place with the suspect being apprehended. One State Police Car was damaged when the topper flew off of the suspects truck striking the troopers windshield. The trooper was not injured.
Detective Chip Perry is the lead investigator in this case. He was assisted by several other troopers and officers from the Oldham County Police.

Burglary 1st, Robbery 1st, Rape 1st, Sodomy 1st, Kidnapping, Unlawful Imprisonment, Wanton Endangerment 1st, Fleeing and Evading. More charges are possible after this case has been heard by the Henry County Grand Jury.
