News Release

**Update with KSP Request** Stand Off Between A Subject & KSP Along with Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms

Date of News Release: 9/30/2004

State Police in Bowling Green requests all news agencies to respect a three (3) mile no-fly radius in the area of the incident. If you have any questions regarding this you can contact Trooper Pavey at the Bowling Green Post at (270) 782-2010.

(Bowling Green, KY) - Troopers from the Bowling Green post, along with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms attempted to question Russell Sublett reference a search warrant. Mr. Sublett fled from officers. A pursuit ensued on U.S. 68-80 in Barren County. The pursuit continued into Warren County where stop sticks were deployed partially disabling Mr. Sublett's vehicle. Mr. Sublett struck another vehicle, exited his disabled vehicle, & fired several rounds at pursuing officers. Officers returned fire. Officers were not injured during the exchange of gunfire. Mr. Sublett then car-jacked a passing motorist's vehicle continuing the pursuit. The pursuit then traveled north onto U.S. 31-W. Mr. Sublett purposefully crashed his stolen vehicle into a residence on Louisville Road exiting his vehicle & taking refuge in the unoccupied residence. Negotiators from the Kentucky State Police have made contact with Mr. Sublett, but have been unable to convince him to surrender at this time. Mr. Sublett remains in the residence, and has fired several shots inside the residence. The Kentucky State Police special response team, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Special Response team are currently on the scene. Negotiations are continuing. The victim of the car-jacking & the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident are unharmed.
