Residential Fire Claims Three Lives in Muhlenberg County

Greenville, KY (Muhlenberg County) - On December 2, 2004 at approximately 0444 hours, Muhlenberg County Central Dispatch received a call of a residential fire located at 983 Friendship Road approximately 3.5 miles south of Greenville. The Greenville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and the first units arrived around 0458 hours. The Central City and Graham Volunteer Fire Departments also responded. The fire departments had the blaze under control in approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
Three people were inside the residence when the fire occurred. Mary Edwards was able to get her daughter, Elizabeth Zachery age 8, out of the residence and went back in to get her son. Timothy Edwards arrived home and went inside to get his wife and stepson out. Timothy Edwards age 44, Mary Edwards age 37 and Joseph Zachery age 11 were unable to escape and died as a result of the fire. The Muhlenberg County Coroner, Tony Armour, pronounced all three dead at the scene.
Elizabeth Zachery was transported to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital and admitted for observation. An autopsy is schedule for December 3, 2004 at the Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville to determine the cause of death for the three victims.
At the present time, the cause of the fire has not been determined. Foul play is not suspected. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
