4000 Marijuana Plants Eradicated First Day Post 12 Area

(Frankfort), On Monday Afternoon June 14, 2004, 4000 marijuana plants were eradicated in northern Franklin County. The marijuana was discovered in four different locations. Outdoor marijuana plants are valued at $2000.00, which makes Monday's results worth $8 million. Monday's effort begins a six-month cannabis suppression effort throughout the Post 12 counties and statewide. Marijuana cannabis suppression efforts will continue through October 2004.

In 2003, 481 marijuana plants were eradicated in Franklin County. During the calendar year of 2003 a total of 5,697 marijuana plants were eradicated in the Frankfort Post 12 area. Post 12 covers Anderson, Fayette, Franklin, Scott, Shelby, Spencer and Woodford Counties.

Statewide in 2003 the Kentucky State Police eradicated 519,986 marijuana plants valued over 1 billion dollars. Kentucky ranked in the top five states nationwide in eradicating marijuana in 2003.

Citizens can aid the KSP in their eradication efforts by providing tips on where marijuana may be growing. Citizens may remain anonymous by completing the form below and sending it to the Kentucky State Police or by calling 1-800-DOPE-TIP (1-800-367-3847). In the Post 12 area citizens can call 1-502-227-2221 or 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state).
