Pursuit on I-75 leads to Arrest

(LONDON, KY) - On Friday, August 13, 2004 at about 12:53 AM, Officers from the Berea Police Department attempted to stop a 2005 Chevrolet Caprice vehicle, traveling southbound on I-75 in Madison County for speeding and reckless driving. The operator refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated continuing through Rockcastle County and into Laurel County with Officers from the Mount Vernon Police Department, Rockcastle County Sheriff Department, London Police Department, Laurel County Sheriff Department and Kentucky State Police assisting. During the pursuit, the suspect's vehicle struck a Mount Vernon Police cruiser, which was operated by Officer Nathan Swartz. The cruiser received moderate damage and Officer Swartz was not injured. The suspect was stopped and arrested near the 31 mile marker on I-75 in southern Laurel County.
Khalid Bryant age 21 of Miami, Florida was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence (Drugs), No Operators License, Prescription Drugs in Improper Container, Fleeing-Evading Police 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree and Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Cincinnati Ohio earlier that evening. Numerous other felony and traffic charges have been filed in Madison County by the Berea Police Department.
