News Release

Attempted Murder and Robbery in Whitley County

(Williamsburg, KY) - On Saturday, February 28, 2003 at approximately 5:00 p.m. Detectives from the Whitley County Task Force responded to the report of an assault at the residence of James W. Veach, 10 miles south of Williamsburg on US 25 W in Whitley County.

According to Kentucky State Police Detective Colan Harrell upon arrival at the residence they discovered James W. Veach had been transported to the Jellico Hospital in Tennessee with lacerations to the throat where he is listed in stable condition.

The investigation discovered that a subject after assaulting Mr. Veach took cash and drugs from the residence.

On Sunday February 29, 2004 the task force arrested Dewey Elmer Wilson age 50 of Canada Town in Whitley County.

Two other individuals Robert Milton Lee age 41 and his wife Debbie Ann Lee age 39 of Williamsburg were both located in Jellico, Tennessee by the Jellico Police Department where they were detained and agreed to return to Kentucky for questioning, which resulted in there arrest.

All three have been charged with Attempted Murder and Robbery 1st degree and are currently lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center in Williamsburg.

The Whitley County Task Force is conducting the investigation with Kentucky State Police Detective Colan Harrell as the lead investigator. Assisting in the investigation were task force members Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge, Deputy Chuck Davis, Williamsburg City Police Detective Wayne Bird and Corbin City Police Detective Tim Helton. The Jellico Tennessee City Police are assisting in the investigation.
