News Release

London/Laurel County Major Crimes Task Force
Investigation Leads to Arrest

(London, KY) - On Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at approximately 11:00 p.m. the London / Laurel County Major Crimes Task Force was called to conduct the investigation into an Assault on Amelia Drive approximately 1 mile west of London in Laurel County.

According to the report two subjects were involved in an altercation at the residence of Roger Dale Merritt. During the altercation Stevano Mascorro age 29 of London was struck in the head with a blunt object.

Stevano Mascorro was transported to Marymount Hospital in London for treatment and later air lifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville where he is listed in critical condition.

On Wednesday, December 17, at approximately 4:00 p.m. the London / Laurel County Major Crimes Task Force arrested Roger Dale Merritt age 43 of London and lodged him in the Laurel County Detention Center charged with Assault 1st degree.

The London / Laurel County Major Crimes Task Force is conducting the investigation with Kentucky State Police Detective Billy Madden as the Investigator.

Assisting in the investigation were task force members Kentucky State Police Detective Marc Hopkins, Laurel County Sheriff's Detectives Johnny Phelps and Lonnie Owens. The investigation is continuing.
