Wal-Mart & Coca Cola Campaign Donates To Trooper Island Camp
Date of News Release: 12/27/2005
(London, KY) - On Thursday, December 22, 2005 Tony Bryant, Manager of Wal-Mart store number 2783 in Lexington presented Kentucky State Police Trooper Craig Sutton, Camp Director of Trooper Camp on Dale Hollow Lake a check from Coca Cola Bottling for $1,000.00. The donation was part of a joint partnership with Wal-Mart store # 2783 and Coca Cola Bottling from the sale of Coke products during 2005 to help underprivileged children.
The donation will help Trooper Island Camp, which was developed by the Kentucky State Police in 1965 on Dale Hollow Lake near the Clinton-Cumberland County line as a boy's camp. Trooper Island now serves as a co-ed camp helping approximately 700 underprivileged boys and girls' ages 10 to 12 selected from across the commonwealth to attend Trooper Island at no charge during the summer months. The children are chosen by Troopers or recommended to Troopers may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a camp. In addition to regular camping dates Trooper Island holds special camps held during the summer help children with PKU (phenylketonuria), Heart Complications (Camp Bravehearts) and a Hispanic camp.
Anyone that would like further information or would like to make a donation to Trooper Island can visit the Trooper Island web site at www.kentuckystatepolice.org/text/trooperisle.htm or by contacting your local Public Affairs Officer at any of the Kentucky State Police Posts across the state.
