Trooper Island News Release

Wal-Mart Market Managers Help Prepare Trooper Island for 2011 Summer Camping Season

Date of News Release: 05/24/2011

(Albany, Ky.) -- On Tuesday May 10, 2011 Reda Shemelya, Wal-Mart Regional Human Resources Director, Alan Adcock, Wal-Mart Market Manager District 257, Cherie Hacker, Wal-Mart Market Manager District 256 and Ken Rush, Wal-Mart Market Manager District 254 brought managers and associates representing 21 stores from which cover all southeastern and south central Kentucky from Harlan to Owensboro to assist in the preparation of the 2011 summer camping season at Trooper Island. Over the past 6 years Wal-Mart Managers and associates have contributed time to assist Trooper Island and the Kentucky State Police prepare the camp for summer campers. The annual cleanup week is to make sure everything is ready for campers when they begin arriving for summer camp. This year they assisted general cleanup of buildings and grounds maintenance from cleaning up brush to spreading mulch. Along with the work stores donated food, clothing, sporting goods and many other items for campers to enjoy this summer.

Trooper Island was created in 1965 by the Kentucky State Police to help those who may not have otherwise had a chance to attend a summer camp. Located on Dale Hollow Lake near the Clinton-Cumberland County line, Trooper Island is a co-ed camp, with approximately 700 boys and girls ages 10 to 12, selected from across the commonwealth by Troopers to attend a weeklong camp at no charge during the summer months. Each post sends 16 boys and 16 girls to camp from all across Kentucky for eight weeks from the first of June through the first week in August.

Trooper Island is a non-profit charitable corporation, operating solely from donation from private individuals, Corporations, Civic and Business groups, along with charitable activities held by Kentucky State Police posts across the state. Some of the scheduled events in which funds are raised for Trooper Island are golf scrambles, motorcycle runs, fishing tournaments and a yearly statewide raffle.

This year we are raffling off a 2011 Ford Mustang. Tickets may be purchased at any Kentucky State Police Post (Charitable Gaming License #00006333). Anyone that would like to find out where they can participate in one of the events visit the Kentucky State Police web site at http://www.kentuckystatepolice.org/island/tpr_isl_events.htm and click on the trooper island link for a list of scheduled events. To make a donation you can send a contribution directly to Trooper Island at Post Office Box 473, Albany, Kentucky 42602 or by contacting your local Public Affairs Officer at any of the Kentucky State Police Posts across the state. Currently Further information on Trooper Island can be found at www.kentuckystatepolice.org/island.htm.
