Trooper Island Receives Grant Form Wal-Mart Market # 438

(Albany, Ky.) -- On Friday March 5th Wal-Mart district 438 presented a check for $2,000.00 to Trooper Island Camp. Stores included as part of the grant and market area are located in Somerset, Lawrenceburg, Harrodsburg, Danville, Stanford, Monticello, Columbia, Campbellsville, Lebanon, Bardstown, Tompkinsville, and Glasgow.
Trooper Island was created in 1965 by the Kentucky State Police to help those who may not have otherwise had a chance to attend a summer camp. Located on Dale Hollow Lake near the Clinton-Cumberland County line, Trooper Island is a co-ed camp, with approximately 700 boys and girls ages 10 to 12, selected from across the commonwealth by Troopers attend a week long camp at no charge during the summer months.
Along with regular camping season Trooper Island currently has two other camps. A Camp for the Deaf and a Camp for the Hispanic. Trooper Island is a non-profit charitable corporation, operating solely from donation from private individuals, Corporations, Civic and Business groups, along with charitable activities held by Kentucky State Police posts across the state. Cursing For Campers Road Rally will be held on April 10, 2010 starting at the Kentucky State Police Headquarters in Frankfort. This year we are raffling the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro (1LT Coupe). Sporting a Victory Red exterior finish and black interior, a rear spoiler and aluminum wheels with Midnight Silver finish, this pony combines retro cool styling, robust performance, enhanced safety, efficient fuel economy, environmental friendliness and high tech tweaks that really make it rock. With a300- horsepower, 3.6 liter V6 engine and a fuel-saving, six-speed automatic transmission, it sprints 0 to 60 mph in just 6.0 seconds and delivers an estimated 29 miles per gallon on the highway. Direct injection technology helps the engine run cleaner and fights pollution including a 25 percent drop in cold-start hydrocarbon emissions.
Safety features include a muscular body structure, integral passenger compartment safety cage, six air bags (dual stage frontal with passenger sensing, side impact thorax, front and rear head curtain side air bags), electronic stability control and traction control, four-wheel anti-lock braking and tire pressure monitoring system.
A tech savvy convenience package includes AM/FM stereo, CD/MP3 playback with auxiliary input jack, Bluetooth phone connectivity, six- speaker audio system with steering wheel-mounted controls, wireless preferred device interface module, USB port, 90 days of XM satellite radio service, one year of OnStar service, remote starter system, ultrasonic rear parking assist and dual console-mounted power outlets.
A 100,000 mile, five-year powertrain limited warranty and a theft deterrent system provides dependable protection and security.
Other features include power steering, dual exhaust with polished stainless steel tips, halogen headlamps with auto on-off control, power outside and rear view mirrors, daytime running lamps, front reading lamps, telescoping/tilt steering wheel, sport bucket seats with cloth seating surfaces, full-folding rear seat with trunk pass-through, front carpeted floor mats, cruise control, console with two cup holders, power door locks, driver and passenger power windows, remote trunk release, rear window defroster, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.
Tickets are $10 each and are available from any Kentucky State Police post or by sending a check for $10 per ticket and a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Kentucky State Police, Public Affairs Branch, 919 Versailles Rd., Frankfort, KY 40601. Checks should be made out to Trooper Island. Please include your area code and phone number. The winning ticket will be drawn on August 29 at the Ky. State Fair. (Raffle winner is responsible for all tax and license fees.) Tickets holders do not have to be present at the drawing to win.
