Louisville Dive Center conducts Dive Training to Benefit Trooper Island at Dale Hollow Lake

An image of rescue training, click here to enlarge in a new window     (Albany, Ky.) -- On Friday July 31, 2009 over twenty scuba divers from Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio came to Dale Hollow Lake to be trained as advanced and rescue divers. The training was held by the Louisville Dive Center with a portion of the proceeds from the training to benefit Trooper Island. NAUI Scuba instructor Ray Scott and his staff conducted the three day event beginning on Friday July 31st through Sunday August 2nd with participant's which were already certified as a scuba diver being trained as an advanced diver and those which currently held the certification of an advanced diver received training as a rescue diver. Ray Scott, owner of Louisville Dive Center stated that "He hoped that this could continue to be an annual event and in addition to the training adding an event such as an ecological clean up." In addition to the training divers were able to dive the Old Willow Grove School House foundation which has been an attraction for divers at Dale Hollow for many years. Over two-thousand dollars was raised to benefit Trooper Island during the three day training. Ray Scott further stated that anyone interested in diving can contact the Louisville Dive Center at 502-368-8427.

Trooper Island was created in 1965 by the Kentucky State Police to help those who may not have otherwise had a chance to attend a summer camp. Located on Dale Hollow Lake near the Clinton-Cumberland County line, Trooper Island is a co-ed camp, with approximately 700 boys and girls ages 10 to 12, selected from across the commonwealth by Troopers attend a week long camp at no charge during the summer months.

In addition to the regular camping schedule Trooper Island has conducted camps for some of Kentucky's special needs youth. Some of these camps have included Children with Congenital Heart Disease (Camp BraveHearts), PKU (Phenylketonuria), Hearing Impairment, Vision Impairment and Hispanic.

Trooper Island is a non-profit charitable corporation, operating solely from donation from private individuals, Corporations, Civic and Business groups, along with charitable activities held by Kentucky State Police posts across the state. Some of the scheduled events in which funds are raised for Trooper Island are golf scrambles, motorcycle runs, fishing tournaments and a yearly statewide raffle. This year we are raffling off a 2009 Metallic Black Dodge Challenger R/T (Yes! It's Got a HEMI!) Tickets may be purchased at any Kentucky State Police Post prior to the start of the state fair those remaining tickets for the drawing will be available during the Kentucky State Fair. The drawing for the car will be held on Sunday August 30th at the Kentucky State Fair in Safety Town which is operated by the Kentucky State Police You do not have to be present to win.
