Wal-Mart Work Day at Trooper Island
Date of News Release: 05/28/2009
(Albany, Ky.) -- On Tuesday May 19th Ken Rush along with Management within the Wal-Mart Market team # 438 conducted their annual Trooper Island clean up day in preparation for the 2009 summer camping season.. Wal-Mart store managers and representatives from Somerset, Monticello, Lawrenceburg, Harrodsburg, Bardstown, Danville, Stanford, Columbia, Campbellsville, Glasgow and Tompkinsville spent the day landscaping, cleaning and bringing supplies for camp which begins on June 1st when campers form the Madisonville and Mayfield arrive for the first week of camp this year. Wal-Marts across Kentucky have been a great help each year with donations from work time to assist in preparation for camp, supplies and monetary and various other ways helping children across Kentucky have a camping experience.
In addition to the regular camping schedule Trooper Island has conducted camps for some of Kentucky's special needs youth. Some of these camps have included Children with Congenital Heart Disease (Camp BraveHearts), PKU (Phenylketonuria), Hearing Impairment, Vision Impairment and Hispanic.
Trooper Island is a non-profit charitable corporation, operating solely from donation from private individuals, Corporations, Civic and Business groups, along with charitable activities held by Kentucky State Police posts across the state. Some of the scheduled events in which funds are raised for Trooper Island are golf scrambles, motorcycle runs, fishing tournaments and a yearly statewide raffle. This year we are raffling off a 2009 Dodge Challenger. Tickets may be purchased at any Kentucky State Police Post (Charitable Gaming License #00006333).
Anyone that would like to make a donation can send a contribution directly to Trooper Island at Post Office Box 473, Albany, Kentucky 42602 or by contacting your local Public Affairs Officer at any of the Kentucky State Police Posts across the state. Currently Further information on Trooper Island can be found at www.kentuckystatepolice.org/island.htm.
