Alabama Man Killed in a CMV Collision on I-75 in Laurel County
Date of News Release: 02/17/2014
(London, KY) - On Monday February 17th 2014 around 4:45 PM Officer Steven Douglas with Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement responded to a fatal crash located on I-75 north bound near the 37 mile marker in Laurel County Kentucky.
Upon arrival and through investigation Officer Douglas determined that 40 year old Shawn Sweatt of Pell City Alabama was operating a 2001 Kenworth Tractor Trailer when he came upon a slow moving vehicle. Sweatt swerved to avoid the vehicle leaving the road and overturning on his top.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash. Sweatt was pronounced dead on the scene by the Laurel County Corners officer.
Assisting on scene: Vehicle Enforcement Officers Sgt. Mike Taylor, Sgt. Greg Reams, Officer David Burton, Officer Joey Ray Caldwell. Laurel County Fire Department, Laurel County EMS, Laurel County Rescue Squad, Laurel County Corners Office and Laurel County Emergency Management. Officer Steven Douglas continues the investigation.
