Commercial Vehicle Accident in Laurel County

(London, KY) - On Monday September 30th 2013 around 12:00 Noon Officer JoeyRay Caldwell with the Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement responded to a non injury accident located on I-75 northbound near the 44 mile marker in Laurel County Kentucky.
Upon arrival and through investigation, officers discovered that 49 year old George T. Furtell, Knoxville Tennessee was north on I-75 when a dog run into his lane of travel. Furtell swerved in an attempt to miss the animal, losing control and crashing his 2001 Volvo tractor trailer loaded with 20,000 lbs of toilet paper.
The slow lane of travel was closed for nearly two hours while crews worked to clean the debris from the roadway and fuel from the ruptured fuel.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash, and Furtell was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.
Assisting on scene: KSP-Vehicle Enforcement Ofc. Randy Rader, Ofc. Dennis Jackson, Laurel Co. Fire Department, Ambulance Inc. and Laurel Co Emergency Management.
