Serious Crash on KY80 in Laurel County

Date of News Release: 03/04/2013

(London, KY) -- On Monday March 4th 2013 around 8 A.M. officer Steven Douglas with the Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement responded to an accident with injuries located on KY80 at the intersection of KY1535 (Sinking Creek Road) in Laurel County Kentucky.

Upon arrival and through investigation, Douglas found 34 year old Stephanie Winberry of London was operating a 2001 Chevy Tahoe when she was attempting to cross KY 80 at the KY1535 intersection. While crossing Winberry collided with 50 year old William G. Rice of Van Lear Kentucky who was operating a 1996 Peterbuilt tractor trailer.

One juvenile passenger from Winberry's vehicle was transported by ambulance to St Joseph Hospital and another juvenile was air lifted from the scene to University of Kentucky Medical Center with serious injuries.

KY 80 was shut down for around two hours while crew worked at the scene. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors and it is believed that at least one juvenile was not wearing a seat belt at the time of crash.

Assisting on Scene: CVE Ofc. Duffy Sutton, KSP Troopers Lloyd Cochran, Brandon Creekmore and TFC. Don Trosper. Officer Steven Douglas continues the investigation.
