Passenger Carrying Strike Force PSA

Date of News Release: 08/19/2013

Louisville, KY. (August 19, 2013) -- The Kentucky State Police will be increasing highway patrol activities and traffic enforcement during the National Passenger Carrying Vehicle Strike Force. The federal program begins Aug. 26th and continues through Sept 6th and is designed to promote a safe driving environment for vehicles commercially carrying passengers. The campaign will increase police presence along high crash corridors and frequently used routes by motor coach, shuttle buses and limousines. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers and Road Troopers will be observing operators of these vehicles; enforcing both state and federal traffic regulations placing an emphasis on critical safety items such as speeding, hours of service, alcohol usage, following too close, and fatigued driving. The Kentucky State Police would like to remind operators of cars, trucks and motorcyles to drive safe around buses and large trucks; leaving more space for larger vehicles to stop and manuever on the roadway.Motorists are also encouraged to report unsafe vehicles by dialing 9-1-1 and giving the location, direction of travel and plate number of the vehicle.
