I-65 Death Investigation

Louisville, KY. (July 25, 2013) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Region 2 Louisville is investigating a death following the recovery of a body lying in the roadway of I-65. Kentucky State Police Post 4 based in Elizabethtown received a 9-1-1 call reporting a male subject lying in the roadway. Commerial Vehicle Enforcement units on routine patrol of the interstate corridor were dispatched to attempt to locate the subject. Units located a male in his mid 20's unrepsonsive in the right lane of I-65 near the 98 mile point. The subject was air-lifted to the University of Louisville Hospital and was listed in critical condition. At 0019 hrs on the 22nd of July Post 4 was notified by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office that the subject was deceased. The victim was identified as 24 year old Lashon Smith of Louisville. Interstate 65 was closed to northbound traffic as units secured the scene, but was reopened a short time later. The investigation is being handled by CVE Officer Daniel Brown and is currently ongoing. At this time motive remains unknown, however preliminary reports indicate the subject may have jumped from a vehicle travelling north bound. Foul play is not suspected.
