Operation Night Out Detail

Date of News Release: 04/30/2013

(Louisville KY.) -- A recent "night out" turned into "Operation Night Out" for KY State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers this past Saturday April 27th, as several High Schools from throughout the region converged on Louisville KY to celebrate Junior and Senior Proms. The detail, focusing on Limousines and Party buses was designed to check operating compliance, vehicle maintenance, driver qualifications, and to ensure the safe operation of these particular vehicles. Uniformed officers from the CVE division set up safety check points and roving patrols, stopping as many stretch limousines, party buses, motor-coaches, and party buses as possible. The detail netted contacts with 14 total vehicles, 28 safety violations recorded, 6 out of service orders, and 1 criminal arrest. Officer Jared Newberry says while safety violations were found and recorded, the Limousine industry is largely comprised of safe companies committed to the safe operation of their vehicles. Allowing us to take a day to focus on this area of regulation helps level the playing field for safety focused legitimate companies and those "fly by night" operations that compromise both safety and the industry. He adds that the KY State Police is increasing its enforcement efforts on passenger carrying vehicles in conjunction with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and more enforcement details like this one will be added throughout the year.
