Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $500 Investigation

Date of News Release: 11/17/2011

(Madison County, Ky.) -- On 11-16-2011 at approx. 14:42 hours Officer Jerry Hudson of the Kentucky State Police Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement was informed by a witness of two white males loading up steel grates from the median of KY 2872 'Duncannon Lane'. The witness described the vehicle as a gold or tan single cab Ford F-150 pick-up and was last seen approxiantly 1 mile east of Officer Hudson's current location on KY 2872.

Officer Hudson located this vehicle traveling west bound on Duncannon Lane and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on Menelaus Road.The vehicle was occupied by three white males and as Officer Hudson was walking up to make contact with the driver he observed four steel grates in the bed of the pick-up truck.

All three subejcts were verbally read Miranda and all three verbally waived their rights. The two passengers admitted to exiting the vehicle and loading the grates in the bed of the pick-up while the driver stayed in the pick-up. The driver admitted to his involvement in the incident. All three subjects advised they were going to take the steel to the scrap yard. The State Highway Department valued the grates at $500.00 each with a total value of $2000.00. All three subjects were charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $500.00 and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
