Multi-State effort focuses on impaired driving and drug interdiction on Interstate 70 / 75

Date of News Release: 05/08/2012

(Frankfort, KY.) The Kentucky State Police joined forces with Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and the Indiana State Police on Interstate 70 and 75 on May 3 5, in an ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking and impaired driving.

This multi-agency enforcement effort is part of the 6 State Trooper Project, which is aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing.

This successful enforcement effort netted 78 arrests for impaired driving and 40 criminal cases.

"Successful multi-agency enforcement efforts, like the one this past weekend, illustrate the collective power of making our roadways and communities safer for everyone," said Lt. Col. Jack Miniard, Operations Division Director.

"We are pleased with the results of this enforcement effort," added Miniard. "One particular stop on I-75 in Laurel County netted a substantial amount of cash along with a large quantity of narcotic pills and stolen hand gun."
