Troopers Stop Runaway Vehicle

Date of News Release: 06/08/2010

(Frankfort, Ky.) -- On Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 6:55 PM, Kentucky State Police dispatch received a report of a motorist that could not stop her vehicle traveling on Interstate 64 between Lexington and Frankfort. The call was relayed from Lexington Metro Police Department via On star. Troopers Todd Wheeler and Mark Johnson were dispatched.

Troopers caught up to the vehicle at the 58 mile-marker on Interstate 64. Trooper Mark Johnson provided instructions to the operator to assist in stopping the vehicle. The operator was unable to place the vehicle in neutral or turn the key in the ignition.

The vehicle was eventually stopped when Trooper Todd Wheeler placed his cruiser in front of the vehicle and brought it to a stop at approximately the 34 mile-marker in Shelby County. No damage was reported to either vehicle. The vehicle also contained two children.
