KSP Troopers Detailed To Inauguration Duties
Date of News Release: 01/15/2008
(Frankfort, Ky.) - A group of 40 Kentucky State Troopers will join local, state and federal law enforcement agencies from across the country to provide security at the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, DC on Jan. 20. The troopers will be temporarily sworn in as local officers giving them arrest powers during their duties, which will include traffic and crowd control, security at various gala events and other miscellaneous assignments.
"It is a great honor to be selected for this duty," said Lt. Col. Mike Sapp, director of operations for the Kentucky State Police. "This detail is by invitation only and the agency is one of only three Kentucky law enforcement organizations invited to participate."
Two troopers will represent each of KSP's 16 posts throughout the state on the detail. Each post's 2008 Trooper of the Year and an outstanding trooper determined by the post commander were selected for the duty. Lt. Col. Sapp, one captain, one lieutenant, four sergeants and one trooper from the Special Operations Branch will also accompany the group.
According to Sapp, all expenses and salaries incurred for this detail will be reimbursed by the Washington, DC Metro Police Dept.
"KSP also participated in the inauguration in 2005," said Sapp. "We look forward to repeating our duties and representing the state of Kentucky in the best manner possible in this national event."
