KY 355 bridge at Severn Creek repair work to start February 12
Target open date is March 1
Date of News Release: 2/9/2018
COVINGTON, KY (Feb. 9, 2018) – Repairs on the steel truss KY 355 bridge over Severn Creek in Owen County will start on Monday. The bridge has been closed since November 27 due to significant structural damage on several portions of the bridge caused by an unidentified impact.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and the Kentucky State Police worked together to find the person who was responsible for the damages, but unfortunately the leads did not reveal the culprit.
“These damages have caused a big inconvenience to those who travel on KY 355,” said Bob Yeager, KYTC District 6 chief district engineer. “We expedited this project as quickly as we could to get the bridge operational and safe for the good folks in Owen County and all who use KY 355.”
In a previous press release, Jon Wilcoxson, director of maintenance for KYTC, stated, “Unexpected damages strain our already limited dollars that would have been used for other maintenance and improvement projects. We all have a joint responsibility to maintain the condition of Kentucky roads and bridges that our tax dollars support.”
Judy C Harp Company Inc., of Frankfort, Kentucky, was awarded the low-bid contract for $95,867. If the weather cooperates, the bridge should be open to traffic by March 1. The contractor has until April 30 to complete the repair project.
Anyone with information regarding the bridge damage should contact the Kentucky State Police Post 5 Campbellsburg Office at (502) 532-6363.
