KSP Investigating Fatal Collision - Single Vehicle Collision in Powell County

Powell County(June 5th, 2017) – On Sunday, June 4th, 2017, at approximately 06:38 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 8 Morehead received information about a single vehicle collision at the 14 mile marker of the Mountain Parkway in Powell County. Trooper Brandon Burton, Trooper Jason Brown and Trooper Matthew Day responded to the scene.

After further investigation it was determined that Melissa Haddix, 18, of Winchester Ky., was traveling westbound on the Mountain Parkway when she lost control of her vehicleand overcorrected before it came to a final rest on its top in the eastbound lane. Ms. Haddix and a passenger Rayna Cross, 20, of Winchester Ky., were pronounced deceased at the scene by Powell County Coroner Hondo Hearne. Another passenger Mary Ripy, 22, of Winchester, was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Two other passengers, Hakeem Floyd, 23, of Winchester Ky., and Steven Fraley, 18, also of Winchester, were transported to Clark Regional Medical Center by Powell County EMS for treatment and then released. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Brandon Burton.
