KSP Investigates Shooting in Bourbon County
Paris, KY (August 11, 2017) — Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting of a Morgan County Man in Bourbon County. Troopers were notified around 2:20 am by James Ross (25) that he had been shot by his father at 3827 Rogers Mill Rd in Mount Sterling, KY which is located in Bourbon County.
The preliminary investigation reveals that James Ross was returning home and had backed into a wood pile on the property and had knocked it over. His father, Ernest Ross (49) who was outside drinking, got upset and began a verbal argument with his son. Ernest then began to physically assault his son with the stock of a .22 long rifle. While James was trying to disarm Ernest the rifle discharged and struck James in the left knee. After being shot James was able to get the gun away from Ernest and defend himself until KSP Troopers arrived on scene.
Both James and Ernest received medical treatment on scene by Bourbon County EMS and were transported to the University Of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment. Both individuals received non-life threatening injuries.
After being released from the hospital Ernest Ross was arrested and charged with Assault 1st Degree and Assault 4th Degree Domestic Violence. Ernest also had an outstanding arrest warrant for aggravated assault that he was also charged with. Ernest was lodged in the Bourbon County Detention Center.
The investigation is being led by Trooper Charles Wagner and is still on-going.
