Fatal Collision in Gallatin County

Interstate 71: 69 mm (September 1st, 2017) – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a single vehicle fatal collision on Interstate 71 South, in Gallatin County.
On September 1st, 2017 at approximately 11:41 p.m., the Kentucky State Police of Post 5 Campbellsburg were working a two vehicle accident near the 69 mile-marker south bound. While KSP and EMS Units were on the accident scene, a tractor trailer overturned while traveling toward their location, resulting in the death of the single occupant and operator.
The preliminary investigation found that the tractor trailer, operated by Devon Mickens, 26, of Boiling Springs, SC, was traveling south on Interstate 71 near the 69 mile-marker. The commercial vehicle was approaching an existing traffic accident with KSP and EMS Units on scene. For unknown reasons the tractor trailer exited the right side of the roadway, collided with a guardrail and then overturned.
Devon Mickens was pronounced deceased on scene by the Gallatin County Coroner. At this time it is unclear as to why the operator lost control of the tractor trailer and overturned. An autopsy was scheduled for later that day through the Medical Examiner’s Office located in Louisville, KY.
The collision remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police who were assisted on scene by Gallatin County EMS, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and the Gallatin County Coroner’s Office.
