KSP Investigating Bullitt Co. Death

Shepherdsville, KY - Kentucky State Police Post 04 Trooper/Detectives are conducting a death investigation in Bullitt Co. On January 18, 2017 at approximately 11:24 PM EST, the Shepherdsville Police Dept. responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on Landmark Ct. in Shepherdsville. Shortly after, Shepherdsville Police Officer Matthew Johnson saw a man matching the description that was given, walking in the vicinity of the initial call. When Officer Johnson attempted to make contact with the subject, later identified as Shawn L. Gabaree (28, of Shepherdsville) he immediately started running away. Officer Johnson chased the subject on foot giving him multiple verbal commands to stop. Both men ran into a nearby subdivision where Mr. Gabaree ran into a pond. Officer Johnson continued to give verbal commands for Mr. Gabaree to exit the pond. At this time the subject stated he couldn’t swim and went underwater. Officer Johnson then went into the water in an attempt to locate and rescue Mr. Gabaree but was unable to locate him. The body was later recovered by the Louisville Metro dive team. Shawn Gabaree was pronounced dead at the scene. KSP was assisted at the scene by the Bullitt Co. S.O./EMS, Shepherdsville PD, Shepherdsville Fire Dept, and the Louisville Metro Dive Team. The investigation is ongoing and being handled by KSP Post 4.
