Extra Patrol at New Salem Bridge in Nortonville

Nortonville, Ky. (Hopkins County) – The Kentucky State Police will have State Troopers patrolling the New Salem Bridge closure to ensure the barriers remain in place to keep the bridge closed.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Highway Department in conjunction with the city of Nortonville, closed New Salem Bridge recently as a safety measure due to results from a recent inspection. Barriers have been placed on the bridge as well as notification provided to local residents. The city is having issues with individuals removing the barriers.
Mr. Lewis was transported via ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and later transferred to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. Deputy King was transported via ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he was treated and released.
The Kentucky State Police will have Troopers patrolling the area to ensure these barriers remain in place. KSP would like to remind everyone that altering a traffic control device or barrier is punishable by law. KRS states “A person shall not attempt to or in fact alter, twist, deface, injure, knock down, or interfere with the effective operation of any official traffic control device or signal, or any part thereof.”
Please remember these barriers are to ensure the safety of the residents and others who travel along the route near the New Salem Bridge.
