Fatal Crash in Leslie County Claims Two Lives
KSP Post 13 is investigating

Hyden, KY.(December 24, 2017) – A two vehicle crash on the Hal Rogers Parkway in Leslie County claimed the lives of two people Sunday morning. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call from Leslie County Emergency Operations Center at around 11:17 a.m., advising of the collision near the Thousandsticks community. Troopers from Post 13 responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation of this incident determined that Paul R. Howard, age 45 of Hyden, was traveling west on the Hal Rogers Parkway in a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. The vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a 2014 Honda SUV which was driven by Joan Sparks, age 71 of Nancy, KY. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Leslie County Coroner’s Office. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
No autopsies will be performed, and toxicology results from both individuals are pending.
