Child Killed in Breathitt County Crash

Date of News Release: 12/27/2017

JACKSON, KY.(December 21, 2017) – A single vehicle crash in Breathitt County Thursday morning claimed the life of a Jackson girl. Trooper Steve Thomas with Kentucky State Police Post 13 responded to War Shoal Branch, after dispatchers received a 911 call advising of a 12 year old female not breathing. Arrow-Med Ambulance also responded to the scene, and transported two individuals to Kentucky River Medical Center for medical treatment.

It was later determined that Mark Robertson and his 12 year old daughter had been involved in a single vehicle crash on War Shoal Branch. Robertson was traveling westbound on War Shoal Branch, in a 1994 Buick Regal, when he lost control of the vehicle, and it traveled over an embankment. The car overturned several times, causing the passenger to be ejected. The daughter was pronounced deceased at the hospital, while Mark Robertson was later transported to University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he remains at this time.

An autopsy will be performed on the deceased victim at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort. While impairment is not apparent in this incident, a toxicology sample was submitted by the driver, which is standard procedure in fatal collision investigations. No seatbelts were in use at the time of this collision, which remains under investigation by Tpr. Thomas.
