Date of News Release: 8/24/2017

Isom, Ky. (August 22, 2017) – A Letcher County man was killed Tuesday morning after the vehicle he was driving collided with a commercial tractor trailer. Kentucky State Police Post 13 received a 911 call advising of the crash just before 7:30 a.m. Troopers from Post 13 responded to the scene on Highway 15 in the Isom community of Letcher County along with members of Letcher Ambulance.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Ethan D. Adams, age 19 of Whitesburg, was driving southbound on Highway 15 in a 2007 Chevrolet pick-up truck. The truck crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a 2006 Peterbilt tractor trailer operated by Johnny Caudill of Whitesburg. The Peterbilt overturned as a result of the impact while the pick-up came to rest in the southbound lane of the roadway. Johnny Caudill was flown to Pikeville Medical for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. Ethan Adams was pronounced deceased at the scene by Letcher County Coroner Renee Campbell.

An autopsy will be performed on Ethan Adams at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, and toxicology results are pending on both drivers, which is standard procedure in a fatal collision investigation. Trooper Scott Caudill with KSP Post 13 is leading this investigation.
