KSP Investigating Easter Morning Fatal Crash in Letcher County - Whitesburg resident is victim

Payne Gap, Ky. (Monday, April 17, 2017) – A single vehicle car crash Sunday morning resulted in the death of a Whitesburg man. Kentucky State Police Post 13 received a call at around 10:45 a.m., advising that a vehicle had apparently caused some property damage to a residential yard on US 119 in the Payne Gap community of Letcher County. There were no witnesses at the scene to provide a vehicle description. Trooper Branden Watts responded to the scene.
Tpr. Watts observed a vehicle in a creek as he arrived at the scene, but did not immediately observe anyone around it. Further investigation resulted in the discovery of an individual trapped underneath the vehicle. Letcher County Coroner Renee Campbell pronounced the victim, 28 year old Larry C. Stidham of Whitesburg, deceased at the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that Larry Stidham was traveling north on US 119, in a 1994 Ford Explorer when the vehicle collided with a guardrail, fence, and utility pole before overturning. The vehicle continued over an embankment and came to rest against several trees. Larry Stidham, was ejected during the collision.
Larry Stidham was not utilizing a seat belt at the time of this collision, and toxicology results are pending. This incident remains under investigation by Tpr. Branden Watts with KSP Post 13.
