Breathitt County Man Shot During Argument
Kentucky State Police Post 13 is Investigation

Jackson, KY (March 31, 2017) – A Jackson man was injured by gunfire after an argument in Breathitt County late Thursday evening. Troopers and EMS officials responded to Beattyville Road in the Elkatawa community, after receiving a call that a man had been shot during an argument. While in route to the scene, they met a truck transporting the victim, 37 year old Dwayne Raleigh of Jackson, for medical assistance. He was transferred to an ambulance and taken to Kentucky River Medical Center.
The initial investigation of this occurrence determined that a disagreement had taken place between several individuals at a residence on Beattyville Road. During the argument, Dwayne Raleigh and Michael Mitchell became involved in a physical altercation, in which Mitchell produced a firearm and shot Dwayne Raleigh. Mitchell was not seriously injured.
Dwayne Raleigh was later transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center for additional medical treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Michael Mitchell, age 44 of Jackson, was located and interviewed about this incident, but he was not immediately arrested. After conferring with the Breathitt County Attorney’s office about the initial details surrounding this incident, the decision was made to present this case to the Breathitt County Grand Jury at the next available session.
