Snow Covered Roads Contribute to Fatal Collision in Breathitt County

Clayhole, KY (January 06, 2017) - On Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 2:14 P.M. Kentucky State Police Post 8 in Morehead received a call to assist the Rowan Count Sheriff Department on a welfare check at 1090 Island Fork Road in Morehead. Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputies and Morehead Police Officers originally made contact with an unidentified male subject. The male subject retreated into the residence barricading himself inside. The subject then fired multiple rounds at the officers, striking a Rowan County Deputy. Officers then returned fire while recovering the Rowan County Deputy. After the Rowan County Deputy was struck, the residence became engulfed in flames. Kentucky State police is on scene and an investigation will continue throughout the night. The incident is currently being investigated by the Kentucky State Police and more information will be released when available.
