Kentucky State Police Investigates an Officer Involved Shooting

Shelbyville, Ky. (October 24, 2017) – An Officer from the Shelbyville Police Department was involved in an Officer related shooting occurring at Tealwood Drive in Shelbyville.
At approximately 9:00 pm Monday, October 23, Shelbyville Police responded to the call of a welfare check for a resident on Mary Crest Drive and to also attempt to locate a black Nissan Murano driven by Ashleigh Bertucci, age 31, of Louisville. Dispatchers obtained information that Ashleigh was believed to be armed with a firearm, and to be considered dangerous. Shelbyville officers made contact with the Nissan Murano and Ashleigh Bertucci on the corner of Tealwood Drive and Mary Crest Drive. Preliminary investigations reveal that Shelbyville officers confronted an armed Bertucci and during the course of that confrontation, a Shelbyville officer discharged his firearm.
Ashleigh Bertucci was treated at the scene by Shelbyville EMS and transported to Jewish Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
The Officer involved has worked for Shelbyville Police Department for several months. Prior to Shelbyville PD he retired as an Officer from the Frankfort Police Department. The Officer has been put on administrative leave per department policy.
The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team and Kentucky State Police Post 12 Detectives. The Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Shelbyville Police Department and the Shelby County Coroner. An updated release will be sent on Friday with further information.
