Death investigation in Knox County

Artemus, KY (February 20, 2017) On February 20, 2017 the Kentucky State Police at Harlan, Post 10 received a call at 1:40 from Knox County Dispatch reporting a body had been found along the Cumberland River by the Knox County Sort Team. Trooper Jay Sowders and Tpr. Kelly Farris responded to the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates the Knox County Sort Team began searching the Cumberland River at approximately 12:26 p.m. looking for Douglas Middleton from Artemus that went missing on February 15, 2017. While searching for Mr. Middleton, the Sort Team located a body along the river on several logs at approximately 1:15 p.m. According to the coroner and KSP, the condition of the body and clothing description is not consistent with Mr. Middleton that went missing last week.
At this time the Knox County Sort Team are attempting to recover the body from the river. Once the body is recovered, it will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy to determine identification and cause of death. Case is still under investigation by KSP Detective Aaron Fredrick. Also assisted at the scene were Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins, and Knox County EMS.
