Kentucky State Police Commissioner Richard W. Sanders (right) presented certificates of appreciation to two Bethel Christian Academy students on May 18 at KSP headquarters in Frankfort. With help from Sgt. Justin Cornett (left) and Tpr. Steve Mounts, of KSP Post 9 in Pikeville, Chase Mullins (center left), of Carrie, Ky., and Christian Stidham (center right), of Hazard, Ky., traveled throughout the state to visit and tend the graves of the 30 KSP troopers and officers who have died in the line of duty since the agency was formed in 1948. They documented their journey with photos as a school project and created a table-top display to honor the fallen officers. The project won first place in a social studies contest at the school and a regional competition held in West Virginia. They will compete in a national competition next week in Missouri.
