KSP Investigates Shooting in Pike County

(Phelps, KY) - In the early morning hours on Monday, April 11, 2016, Kentucky State Police Post 09 received a 911 call from Pamela Smith. Smith advised dispatchers that she had shot her estranged husband.
Preliminary investigation indicates Terry Briggs arrived at Smith's residence, made entry inside the home, and made threats to Smith. Smith, armed with a handgun, shot Briggs causing fatal injuries. A Domestic Violence Order was active at the time of the shooting. Terry Briggs, 37 of Phelps, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Ernie Casebolt.
No charges have been filed at this time; however, this case will be presented to a grand jury for consideration. KSP Post 09 Detective Christopher Phillips continues the investigation.
