Post 8 Activity for August 2016/ Monthly Traffic Safety Checkpoint Announcement

Morehead, Ky. (October 4, 2016) – Kentucky State Police at Post 8 Morehead announce the final traffic and criminal activity report for September 2016. During September, Post 8 personnel issued 1,445 total citations. Of those citations, 20 were for DUI, 155 were for Speeding, 89 for No Seat Belt, and 8 for Child Restraint. In addition, there were 1,103 Vehicle Inspections and 235 Courtesy Notices issued. Post 8 also investigated 35 Traffic Collisions, including a two fatal collisions (Rowan County, Powell County). Post 8 investigated 1,010 Complaints, opened 68 Criminal Cases, and made 224 Criminal Arrests for the month of September.
Additionally, Captain Kenneth K. Bowman, Commander of the Kentucky State Police at Morehead, announces that Troopers of the Morehead Post will be conducting Safety Checkpoints in addition to Moving Patrols throughout the Post 8 area during the entire month of October as well the remainder of the year 2016. Motorists are urged to be cautious and obey reduced speeds through road construction zones.
This concentrated enforcement effort will utilize Troopers and Detectives assigned to and working the Morehead post area. Members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) will also be utilized. They will focus on enforcing violations of Speeding, No Seat Belt, Child Restraint, Impaired Driving Laws, and Texting While Driving, as well as other violations of the Traffic Laws of Kentucky.
