Fatal on Interstate 65 Near Franklin in Simpson County

(Franklin, KY) - The Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to a single vehicle injury collision that resulted in a fatal last night at approx. 8:46 pm near the 6 mile marker on Interstate 65 in Simpson County.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Perry Cochran (53) of Bowling Green was operating a 1995 Chevrolet pick-up and was traveling southbound on I-65 when he side-swiped a tractor trailer being operated by Sukhbir Kalkat (42) of Brampton, Ontario. Cochran's vehicle then traveled off the roadway and impacted a guardrail where he was ejected. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Mr. Cochran was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Simpson County Coroner Gary Crafton.

The investigation is still ongoing and being conducted by Trooper Bartley Weaver. He was assisted on the scene by Sergeant Tucker Carmichael, Troopers Shae Foley and Harrison Wells, Franklin Police Department, Franklin-Simpson EMS, and the Simpson County Fire Department.
