Pursuit Leads to Arrest of Madisonville Man

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police has charged a Madisonville man with numerous offenses after a pursuit.
On Thursday, February 4, at approximately 8:09 p.m., Trooper First Class Jim McArthur observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway at approximately the two mile-marker. Tfc. McArthur activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The operator disregarded Tfc. McArthur’s emergency equipment and accelerated in an attempt to flee.
The vehicle continued to flee southbound on the parkway until it merged westbound on to Interstate 24. The suspect vehicle exited the interstate at exit 73. The suspect attempted to make a right turn at the end of the ramp and drove off the opposite shoulder of the roadway. After a brief foot pursuit, Tfc. McArthur apprehended the suspect without further incident.
The operator, identified as Henry L. Burton, 45, Madisonville, KY, was lodged in the Christian County Jail and charged with the following offenses by Tfc. McArthur:
- Speeding 22 MPH Over
- Fleeing/Evading Police 1st Degree
- Fleeing/Evading Police 2nd Degree
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
- DUI 2nd Offense (Aggravating Circumstances)
- No Operator's License
- Failure of Wear Seatbelt
