Date of News Release: 03/13/2016
(HENDERSON, KY) - On Saturday, March 12, 2016 around 12-noon, the Kentucky State Police Post 16-Henderson was contacted by Owensboro Police Department requesting our agency to investigate an incident where an Owensboro Police officer was almost struck by a vehicle intentionally targeting the officer during a traffic stop.
Just before noon, Owensboro Police Officer Nathan Godeke spotted a vehicle traveling on Old Hartford Road which the agency had received complaints on. Officer Godeke initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle in the 2500 block of Old Hartford Road. As Officer Godeke approached, he recognized the operator as Ryan S. Clark, who has multiple arrest warrants. Officer Godeke stepped back and ordered Clark to exit the vehicle. Clark revved the vehicles motor to a high RPM and engaged the vehicle in reverse attempting to strike Officer Godeke. Officer Godeke reacted by discharging his service weapon into the vehicle. Clark sped away, running off the roadway and striking a porch to a residence. Clark then continued where he struck a utility pole which completely disabled his vehicle. Clark then fled his vehicle on foot where authorities were able to arrest him without further incident.
No one was injured in this incident and it is still being investigated by the Kentucky State Police.
Owensboro Police Department likely has further charges related to this incident.
