Gas Line Rupture in Knott County Closes Roadway

(Pine Top, KY) - A gas line rupture in Knott County this evening (07/22/2016) has first responders concerned for the safety of local residents in the area. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call at around 6:34 p.m., advising that a gas line near the junction of KY 582 and Steer Fork Road in the Pine Top community was leaking. Local first responders were notified and responded to this location.
First responders currently on the scene of the gas leak include KSP Post 13, Knott County Sheriff's Office, Carr Creek Fire Department and Knott County Emergency Management. Residences within a half mile radius of the gas leak are being evacuated, and this section of roadway on KY 582 is closed. Traffic is being diverted from KY 582 onto KY 1393, also known as Branhams Creek Road.
All non-emergency personnel are asked to avoid this area until further notice. Information concerning changes or updates to this situation will be made available as soon as possible. The cause of this gas leak remains under investigation at this time.
