Woman Injured in April Crash in Breathitt County, Dies

(Hazard, KY) - A Breathitt County woman who was injured in a two car collision in April of this year, died early yesterday morning at a Lexington hospital. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard was notified by the Fayette County Coroner's Office that 47 year old Christine Neace, of Lost Creek in Breathitt County, had died at approximately 3:41 a.m. Monday morning.
Neace was a passenger in a car that was struck by another vehicle on KY 15, near the junction of KY 1110, in the Haddix community of Breathitt County. Troopers with KSP Post 13 responded to the collision scene at around 1:43 p.m., on Friday April 22, 2016. Betty Whitaker, age 57 of Hazard, was driving a 2012 Toyota 4Runner on KY 15, when she attempted to make a left turn into the parking lot of the Haddix Food Mart. Whitaker pulled into the path of a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 58 year old Jimmy Neace of Lost Creek, resulting in a head-on collision. Whitaker, Jimmy and Christine Neace, and an infant passenger in the Neace vehicle were all transported to Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson for medical treatment of perceived non-life threatening injuries. Christine Neace was later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she died yesterday morning.
Heavy rainfall and visual impairment are believed to be the main contributing factors in this collision, which remains under investigation by Trooper Isaac Whitaker with KSP Post 13.
