Kentucky State Police Investigate Officer Involved Shooting

Georgetown, Ky. (August 08, 2016) - On Monday August 8, Troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 12 were involved in an Officer related shooting occurring in a wooded area off of Midway Road at the Scott / Woodford County Line.

34-year-old Juan J. Godines of Camden, South Carolina was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Woodford County Coroner.

Warrants had been issued for Godines arrest for Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree, Assault 4th Degree (Domestic Violence) and Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree after Godines was involved in a domestic incident with his wife during the early morning hours of Monday, 08/08/16.

At approximately 4:42pm on August 08, Troopers in unmarked State Police Vehicles attempted to stop Godines on Georgetown Road (KY 460) to execute the active warrants. A short pursuit ensued in which Godines was able to elude law enforcement. Officers from multiple agencies converged on the area and Godines was located, at approximately 5:03pm, on Ironworks Road near Georgetown, Kentucky. A second pursuit was initiated in which Godines struck a law enforcement vehicle with his car and presented an immediate danger to oncoming vehicles due to his erratic driving.

A tire deflation device was utilized on Godines’ vehicle at the junction of Ironworks and Midway Road. Godines collided with a group of trees on Midway Road a short distance later, near South Elkhorn Creek, and fled on foot into a wooded area at the Scott / Woodford County Line. Troopers gave chase and encountered the armed suspect in the woods. At 5:06pm Kentucky State Police Dispatch was notified that shots had been fired and Godines was pronounced deceased. No Officers were injured during the pursuit or incident occurring in the woods.

The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police. Kentucky State Police was assisted during the pursuit and at the scene by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and Officers with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.
