KSP Investigates Fatal Collision in Pike County

(Elkhorn Creek, KY) - Kentucky State Police, Pikeville Post, is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Pike County during the afternoon hours of Thursday, November 05, 2015.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Gordon Haynes, 49 years old of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, was traveling south on KY Route 197 in the Elkhorn Creek community of Pike County. The Chevrolet Camaro operated by Haynes crossed into the north bound lane, colliding with a GMC pick-up truck containing seven occupants. Six of the occupants were taken to Pikeville Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident. One of the occupants was airlifted from the scene to University of Kentucky Medical Center. Haynes suffered fatal injuries in the collision, and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey.

Evidence at the scene indicates Haynes was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Kentucky State Police. The collision is under investigation by Trooper Kevin Thacker.
