KSP Investigates Fatal Accident in Pike County

Date of News Release: 03/09/2015

(Marrowbone, KY) - The Kentucky State Police, Pikeville Post, is investigating a fatal collision in Pike County that occurred in the morning hours of March 08, 2015.

The initial investigation indicates that Bobby Hopkins, 76 years old of Shelbiana, Kentucky, was driving South on Marrowbone Creek Road, when the vehicle he was operating left the roadway and struck a tree. The investigation indicated that icy road conditions were a factor in the collision. Hopkins was pronounced deceased at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey. Information obtained at the scene indicates that Hopkins was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Jonathan Hedges. Trooper Hedges was assisted at the scene by Transtar Ambulance Service and Marrowbone Creek Fire Department.
