Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Drug Arrest

(Dorton, Ky.) - The Kentucky State Police, working in conjunction with Sergeant Greg Roberts with Tennessee Highway Patrol and Sergeant Charlton Martin with Alabama State Police, made a felony drug arrest in the early evening hours of Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Trooper Zach Bryson with the Kentucky State Police Post 09 Criminal Interdiction Team, conducted a traffic stop on a 2009 Black Volkswagon Jetta in the Dorton community of Pike County. Trooper Bryson contacted the driver, Jeffery Coleman, 47, of Pikeville, KY. As Trooper Bryson approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of marijuana. Kentucky State Police K-9 Unit Trooper Bo Cure responded to assist with the traffic stop. A search of the vehicle resulted in the Troopers locating and seizing approximately 30 pounds of marijuana, 18 Oxycodone tablets, and $28,000 in U.S. Currency. Coleman was arrested and charged with the following:

  1. Speeding
  2. Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense
  3. Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container 1st Offense
  4. Possession Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree
  5. Trafficking in Marijuana Over 5 pounds 1st Offense

Coleman was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. This case remains under investigation by Trooper Bryson
