RPD Announces Funeral Procession Route for Officer Ellis

The motorcade procession for Officer Daniel Ellis is as follows:

November, 11, 2015 at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Leave Alumni Coliseum, 641 Eastern Bypass, Richmond, KY 40475;
Turn Left onto Eastern Bypass;
Turn Left onto Big Hill Ave. (US 25);
Continue onto Main St. through Richmond, passing Richmond Police Department;
Turn Left onto Lexington Road (US 25);
Turn Left to merge onto I-75 South at Exit 90;
Take Exit 62 and turn Right onto HWY 461;
Turn Right onto HWY 80 West toward Somerset;
Turn Right onto KY 914;
Turn Right and merge onto Cumberland Parkway West;
Take Exit 62 and turn Right onto KY 127 North;
Turn Left onto KY 76;
Turn Right onto KY 76/206 (Liberty Road);
Turn Right onto Pellyton East Road.

Update (Additional Charges Filed) - KSP Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Madison County

(Richmond, KY) -- The Kentucky State Police have filed additional charged against the alleged shooter that took the life of Richmond Police Officer Daniel Ellis.

Raleigh Sizemore, 34 years old of Richmond, is now charged with Murder of a Police Officer, two counts of Attempted Murder of a Police Officer, Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree, and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon. Sizemore is being held in LaGrange at the Kentucky State Reformatory. The new charges are the result of the ongoing investigation, which alleges that after Raleigh Sizemore shot Officer Daniel Ellis, he shot at two other RPD Officers that were on the scene.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post.

RPD Officer Shot While Investigating Robbery Has Died

(Richmond, KY) -- On Friday, November 6, 2015, shortly before 2:00 a.m. EST, Richmond Police Officer Daniel Ellis passed away, while at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

The Richmond Police Department is extremely grateful for the prayers and support that have been extended to Officer Daniel Ellis, his family, friends, and fellow officers. They ask that you continue to pray for them as they grieve this tremendous loss, and that the privacy of the family is respected during this very difficult and trying time.

Funeral arrangements will be planned during the coming days and will be released as soon as they are available.

KSP Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Madison County

(Richmond, KY) -- The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, is investigating a shooting that critically injured a Richmond Police Officer earlier today. RPD Officer Daniel Ellis, 33 years old of Richmond, and a seven year veteran of RPD was shot while investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred before 7:00 a.m. this morning. Officer Ellis's investigation led him to an apartment on Ballard Drive just before 10:30 a.m., belonging to Gregory Ratliff. It is alleged that while Officer Ellis and another RPD Officer were searching the apartment, Raleigh Sizemore produced a firearm and shot Officer Ellis, critically injuring him. Following the initial shooting, an officer inside the residence then returned fire and struck Raleigh Sizemore. Officer Daniel Ellis transported by EMS to the University of Kentucky Hospital where he is being treated for life threatening injuries.

Raleigh Sizemore, 34 years old of Richmond, was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital where he was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries. Sizemore has been arrested and charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer and Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree. He is lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

Gregory Ratliff, 25 years old of Richmond has also been arrested and charged with Complicity to Commit Murder of a Police Officer. He is also lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post. KSP was assisted at the scene by Richmond Police Department, Madison County EMS, Richmond Fire Department, and the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
