One Dead, One Injured in I-65 Accident

(ELIZABETHTOWN, KY.) - Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown worked a fatality accident just South of Elizabethtown on I-65 Monday afternoon. On August 3, 2015 at approximately 5:42 P.M. EDST, Ryan Romig (54) of Greenfield, In. was traveling North on I-65 at athe 90 mile marker in a 1996 International Semi-tractor and trailer. For unknown reasons a tire blew on the vehicle causing Mr. Romig to lose control of the vehicle and cross the median and enter the southbound lanes. Christopher Mayer (39) of Loveland, OH. was headed south on I-65 in the same area in his 2007 Infiniti passenger car. The Semi-truck and trailer operated by Mr. Romig struck the Infiniti operated by Mr. Mayer causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Mr. Mayer was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin Co. Coroner. Mr. Romig was mechanically extricated from the vehicle and flown to University of Louisville Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. KSP was assisted on the scene by Hardin Co. EMS, Hardin Co. Coroner’s Office, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Elizabethtown Fire Dept, Central Hardin Fire Dept, Glendale Fire Dept, and Airmethods. The accident is still under investigation by KSP Trooper Bryan Washer.
